hands of wisdom...

There is no one quite as special as my dad. I caught him this weekend sitting still for a few moments and was able to capture his hands in the sunlight. You can see so much in his hands. I have always loved them. You can see the years of hard work, the years of pats on the back to his children, and the wisdom he holds. He has shown me so many things. Shown me how a husband should treat his wife...How a father should love his children...How a person should live and love.

baby belly...

had to try out a new frame... little ashton is ready to meet the world! adorable parents-to-be! I had such a WONDERFUL maternity session this afternoon. The couple was so sweet and excited to be first time parents. We could have sat and talked all afternoon. The dad-to-be, was originally from London and mom-to-be from Houston. They had such a sweet story of how they met and fell in love. One of the many wonderful things about being a photographer is meeting new people. Rebecca is a beautiful pregnant women - she truly was glowing. I can't wait to meet (a photograph :) little Ashton in a month! Thanks to you both for a great afternoon of baby bellies and conversation!

Change of Heart....

Well, what can we say....We had a change of heart... Each summer I take some of my high school seniors (and a few lucky juniors) on a art trip. We have toured Europe and the Big Apple so far. All year we have planned a trip to tour California..From San Fran to the City of Stars we were as pumped as could be...Ready to take in local art galleries and tour Calli. We then found out that our tour would be moved back a bit to far into the summer for our liking..No worries..We had a change of heart and decided on a bit more tropical..a bit more colorful..A trip to Puerto Rico with our main stay in San Juan. After looking into this tour we were all sold - colorful buildings, tropical rain forests, and local artists with amazing crafts!! This trip is filled with art and photography lovers, and is not only limited to students. If you think this is the trip for you contact me soon. I must say that Jack (for some crazy reason my camera has a name..)and I are pretty excited to take some colorful and creative pictures...

Intern 101...

I am so delighted to introduce the fabulous(and adorable,I might add) intern Megan. She is a gal with an eye for photography and a style all her own. She is heading down photography road and wanted to come along to some upcoming sessions to shadow. She is wanting some real-world career experience. I know just where she can find it... I am excited to have her along at an upcoming wedding, and possibly a few other shoots. You are lucky if she tags along, she has an amazing eye for creativity and she is learning fast how to conquer the photography world. She currently is learning the basics on photography...photo editing, darkroom, photo processing, and client relations - and I am so pleased to help her in her journey. You are amazing Megan - get ready for some fun!

month of brides...

Once again I want to say thank you for the love, support, and emails I have received with the launch of the new website. I have truly taken the time to read (and hopefully replied) to each and every email you have all sent. All of the kind words you have shared have let me know that the sleepless nights working on the site were well worth it..THANK YOU ALL! I am now naming January the Month of Brides!!! You always hear that many couples get engaged over the holidays and new year, and begin planning the wedding right away (I hear you girls...I started those plans 2 seconds after the proposal..) Well, it is true. I have gotten the chance to speak with more brides in the past two weeks than I did last year. Each and every wedding that has been booked already holds a place in my heart. I picture the dress, the flowers, the kiss...I can't explain the honor I feel to be a part of such a special day. That being said, I am now offering a "Month of Brides" special. If you book your wedding with Art and Soul you can choose to add you engagement and bridal session for the price of $200. I am also doing my very first bridal show. If you have already booked your wedding and come and visit my bridal booth - I will add a custom 11x14 print of your engagement session. (details of bridal show to come..) Please contact me very soon if you would like wedding coverage information. The spring dates fill very fast. I am pleased to announce that I will have a wonderful assistant at my upcoming February weddings...She will introduce herself on the blog very soon. More to come....Stay tuned for weekend sessions...A weekend of engagement sessions make me smile!

bright eyed birthday girl...

Today is the birthday of my very special and wonderful friend Dana! She filled me in on her birthday festivities taking place in Guatemala (where she is serving in the Peace Corps)...a five man band sung her a birthday song early this morning. One man played an accordian while the other men sung and prayed that the new girl would learn more Spanish..The stories of her adventure are already keeping me laughing! They have welcomed her into their lives. She is living in a home with 22 other members of her new family. I am proud of her service. Proud of lives she will change. Proud to call her my friend. Happy Birthday many miles away, sweet Dana!

Paint the Park Community Service Project!

Just around the corner is the Paint the Park Community Service Project that I am in charge of putting together. I told Dusty just over a year ago that I would organise this fun event (after I was done being preggo) and that time is here! Bumpass Park, located north of Britton on Penn is the park waiting for a makeover! The calls are being made, stores are helping out, and painters are volunteering. At this point we have just over 50 people that have said they will participate in the project. Our date for this event is Saturday April 12th - if we get rained out we will continue the project on Sunday 13th. The project will include - painting playground equipment, planting a flower garden, and building a small gazebo. All materials will be donated from the wonderful store owners in The Village. We plan on ordering "Paint the Park" shirts for everyone to wear...so please let me know if you are interested in helping with the project and I will see to it that everyone has a shirt. This is a wonderful project for the whole family!! We hope that after the completion of this project we can continue to restore a park each year. We can work together to make our city beautiful - lets do it! (If you know of any vendors that would like to donate supplies, please contact me)

Launch Day Love...

Had to include one more photo of the adorable little Destry... Thanks for all the emails....I am so happy that you all are enjoying the new website and photographs. I enjoyed reading all the responses to launch day. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and taking the time to check out the new Art and Soul! It was back to school to start a new semester today...Missed my baby girl all day, but it was great to see all my kiddos and hear about the great holidays they had. I drove home from work today thinking about how many wonderful kids people raise in this world. Feeling very blessed to raise one of my own. 2008 sure is starting out great!

Little D...

(click to enlarge) Little Destry was as cute as they come. I truly have never seen such a content and peaceful baby. He did not cry once in our two hour session. He gazed at the camera and then went to sleep. He was such a doll! The birth of this baby boy could not happen to a sweeter family. Nikki is a wonderful teacher and friend, and has the mommy thing down...She was such a natural...I loved the wonderful art they had in the house - so we got some shots of him by it. They turned out to be my fave shots from the session. I am getting antsy for the new site to be up, up, and away...It has been a long 48 hours waiting for the new site to kick in - but it should all be worth it soon...I have been promised it should be going by Monday morning - and I will have an official launch day! Thank you to all who have helped with the final touches of the site - your help is greatly appreciated :) Have a few more sessions to post after some proofing - have to share the pet portraits from Saturday - it was such a hoot! The hubby and I have to do a bit of celebrating tomorrow - it will be 12 years ago tomorrow that we first began dating. Little did we know what our future would hold. I would not change a thing. I sure am glad that 14 year old, red-headed baseball player asked me to be his girlfriend all those years ago. I love him more every year. Tomorrow is also the second birthday of a special little boy who we love dearly. I know he will have a wonderful - balloon filled day :)
